Aladdin the musical, is set in the mythical Arabian town of Agrabah, where we meet Aladdin, an impetuous and wayward young man who spends his days relieving food from the street vendors of Agrabah. But as always, Disney always has a Palace, and in this great palace, the beautiful Princess Jasmine has just been scolded by her father, the Sultan, for refusing yet another suitor. The Sultan has demanded that Jasmine must marry a noble prince before her upcoming birthday, which, by the magic of Broadway occurs in just three days’ time…
Jafar is the Sultan’s Vizier, an irregular and ambitious man, who hungrily wishes to usurp the throne for himself, and spends most of his time searching for a way to enter the infamous, “Cave of Wonders”. One magical day, while walking in the market, among the vendors and the entertainers, our lovable rogue, Aladdin meets the gorgeous Jasmine, who has disguised herself as a commoner. There is a scuffle in the street, which has nothing, whatsoever to do with Aladdin stealing something. The discovered princess, Jasmine is escorted, under a heavy guard, back to the palace, meanwhile, the poor Aladdin is ordered to be put to death.
However, the grand vizier, Jafar has discovered a need for Aladdin, and saves the wayward youth. Ever grateful for having had his life saved, Aladdin agrees to honor Jafar’s “request”, to enter the “Cave of Wonders”. Jafar gives Aladdin strict instructions, that once inside the cave, he is to touch absolutely nothing, nothing at all, except to bring out one single lamp…
Of course, once inside the cave, and surrounded by uncountable riches, Aladdin picks up a trinket, and the stupid cave angrily seals itself, trapping Aladdin inside! While contemplating his predicament, Aladdin rubs the lamp, and to his surprise, the lamp releases a magical Genie! For his valiant and totally unselfish act, Aladdin is granted three wishes for releasing the Genie, and during their conversation, Aladdin tricks the Genie into freeing the both of them, from the cave. But in return, Aladdin promises to use his last wish to free the Genie.
For Aladdin’s first official wish, he asks to be made into a mysterious, but rich, foreign prince. The new, and mysterious, Prince Ali boldly walks into the palace of Agrabah and expresses to the Sultan his wish to marry his daughter, the princess, Jasmine. Jafar, however, is weary and distrustful of this new and strange unknown Prince Ali. On investigation, Jafar discovers Ali to be but a common street urchin, and has Aladdin re-arrested. In the ensuing scuffle, Jafar manages to steal the magical lamp from Aladdin. Triumphantly, Jafar uses his first wish to imprison Jasmine, and his second wish is to be crowned Sultan!
Cunningly, while under the threat of death, Aladdin convinces Jafar into wishing for even more power for himself; and into becoming an even more powerful genie. Jafar falls for the ruse and the Genie is obliged to grant Jafar his wish… Get your tickets to the show to discover what ultimately happens to the evil grand vizier, and how on earth can a literal Disney princess fall for the thieving street urchin, … plus, what about that freedom earning third wish???
