With due respect to the highly successful early futuristic motion picture in the 80s, Back To The Future is a nostalgic memory brought to life masterfully on the live stage.
Similar to the movie it is based on, the stage adaptation follows the story of 17-year-old Marty McFly, an intrepid teenager, who moves back in time and space to a time period unknown to him through the use of a DeLorean that can time travel. Unfortunately he realizes that traveling back and forth in time is not all fun and games, and Marty McFly must struggle to ensure that his mom and dad fall in love once again for him to go back to his time period.

Let's address the elephant in the room! This is a story that you probably already know. That's perhaps the main reason why you're coming to the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. What makes it worthwhile to watch a play when know exactly what's going to happen? It's a rhetorical question because the answer is you're interested in seeing how they handle the plot! One of the best elements about Back To The Future - Theatrical Production is that it stays very true to the source material. At the same time, in every adaptation of this musical on Broadway on the West End or in the US Tour, the actors have been given plenty of liberties to put their spin on the characters. While some of the lines were transferred directly from the original script, you're not going to see Roger Bart, who's played Doc Brown on Broadway and The West End, try to copy Christopher Lloyd. The same thing applies to Marty McFly and Michael J. Fox.
You could say it's obviously different because this is a musical, and the performers who are giving life to these characters on stage have to sing. While there's some truth to this, it's still safe to say that one of the elements to the success of the story as a show is that it has taken up a life of its own. That's something that everyone in the seats is going to enjoy because what's going to be taking place on stage isn't just a copy of the film. What's happening here is similar to the way that a musical like The Lion King has been able to distance itself from the Disney movie. In this case, the soundtrack is truly enhanced in the musical in a manner that the movie will always fall short of.
