Winnie Holzman & Stephen Schwartz, creative founders of Wicked, were inspired by the 1995 Gregory Maguire story "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West".
This production has been PRAISED for its detailed story of Oz, giving The Wizard of Oz fans around the world a peek into Glinda and Elphaba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West). WICKED, even with its main characters starting off as enemies, it is a deep journey about friendship and acceptance. The broadway musical originally premiered in 2003, making it 21 years old. Since its inception, Wicked has surpassed $1 BILLION in revenue on Broadway. Only The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera have accomplished this incredible achievement.
